First Snow of the Winter
|
While the furnace finally kicked on the morning before last, and the kitties have been telling me "Itz Cold!" for a week, and they finally convinced me to excavate the wood stove that was buried under tools and summer construction supplies yesterday, and I finally re-set the thermostat to winter settings... I just can't seem to accept that it is winter until the first snow sticks to the ground.
Of course, with it trying to melt at almost the same pace that it fell, it has been snowing steady all morning into early afternoon (and possibly much of last night) just to get to a few inches on the ground. And now... it finally feels like the official beginning of winter. Almost like some big fireworks celebration should be going off all day and fuzzy foxes should be doing a conga-line across the yard while drinking champagne. But with the exception of an occasional thunder-snow or windy ice-storm, the winter here is quiet... very, very quiet. And maybe that is what I like the most about winter.
The celebration is less fire-works and more softly crackling fire, and less champagne and dancing than hot cider and cuddling with kitties on the couch. But really... that is so much more my speed.
So here is to hoping we all have wonderful and soothing winter. Grab that extra blanket and some cocoa and enjoy!
