A Perfectly Cloudy Eclipse
I totally take back my disgruntlement with the clouds coming in during the eclipse!

Battling the Spring Cold and a few little things.
Uggg.  Was all excited to go sit on my swing and drink my coffee this morning cause it is finally bright and sunny and the wind finally stopped (way too much wind yesterday).  But stepped outside and realized that not only was the sun not shining directly on the swing yet… but it is 35 degrees out there!
For most people winter is the coldest season, but since the sun dips and streams into the windows all the way to the back of the house, for me, it is one of my warmest seasons.  But spring ...

A beautiful day for outside.
While we have had a few very sunny mornings or evenings, the irritating wind has crossed paths with the sun almost every time, making for very few truly perfect days so far this spring.  Of course, here in the mountains, it isn't really spring until mother's day... so I am taking the warm days as they come and trying to make the most out of the ones that are not windy as well.
Today... is... that day.  Perfect sun and only a very light breeze to keep things nice.  The mountain side is alive with the ...

Under Pressure
While the icy cold weather has seen me mostly soaking up the sun in the loft or stealing the cat's place in front of the fire, I also had a great Thanksgiving at my sister's house and had a few days with my husband home.  Included was a little online shopping (or a lot) and doing just a couple house repairs that needed hubby around in case I got stuck in a tiny hole in the ceiling above the master bathtub.  (Yeah... that is another story.)
In any case, since we decided that an induction stove/oven is ...

While the weather forecast predicted temperatures staying in the mid 40's at night, it clearly got a lot colder last night...

Full Force Spring Cleaning... or exactly how did I move that by myself?
I don't know if keeping too busy to think is a good way to handle grief, but maybe it is a necessary thing right now.  And finding out that our community "Clean Up" would happen this weekend with a tiny fee of $5 per truck-load of junk instead of the $70-ish at the county dump, and dumpsters right near the mailboxes a mere half-mile away, was a push to action that I could not ignore.
So Thursday I turned this...

More Winter
Just when you think the massive winds, then an impossibly warm day on Sunday, means that winter is over...

Wind Warning
Gladly the mountains here are not prone to many of the environmental concerns that other areas need to worry about.  No hurricanes, no earthquakes, very rarely (if ever) tornadoes, and since I am relatively close to the top of the hill on one side of the valley, no worries about flooding.

New Tools and Project Plans
I love my family and my in-laws... and not just because they are all amazing people, but also because they know a girl can never have too many tools.

A Quick Winter Drive
I know it has been a long time since I posted last.  I have done a few little projects around the house, traveled on my first international trip, learned some interesting things about Colombia, and managed to expand my spanish vocabulary by about fifty times from what I knew.  (Which still isn't saying much.)
And while I know I should prepare and finish a half-dozen posts about those things, the fire is warm and my butt is lazy, so this is about all the updating I am up for...
I ...

Happy Halloween!
There are actually very few things about living in the city that I miss.  One is our great neighbors, and the other... is Halloween.  While the trick-or-treaters were often bundled up in snow-suits over their costumes since Halloween is often one of the coldest nights of the year in Denver for some reason, now and then we would have a year warm enough to see all the cute costumes.
And of course, sadly it seems that the majority of costumes are now store-bought with little thought and ...

First Snow of the Winter
While the furnace finally kicked on the morning before last, and the kitties have been telling me "Itz Cold!" for a week, and they finally convinced me to excavate the wood stove that was buried under tools and summer construction supplies yesterday, and I finally re-set the thermostat to winter settings... I just can't seem to accept that it is winter until the first snow sticks to the ground.

Of course, with it ...

Ryobi One+ String Trimmer
Into everyone's life a little rain must fall, but here in the Bailey area we have been getting great rain and thunder storms almost every day, and sometimes twice a day.  I feel a little funny saying "usually" when I have only lived here for 5 years, but at least during those years, we had the occasional snow into May, but when the snow stopped, more often than not, so did all moisture up here.  Ushering in a drought that would burn the bushes, stunt the grass, and turn the newly wild-flower filled ...

Happy Mother's Day from the mountains!

New Addition to the Car Family
Hubby and I have been in a dilemma about cars… It seems silly that we need a minimum of three, but with hubby driving as much as he does, it is an all-too-common event that one will be broken in some way before the next is fixed, and when that happens I am left without transportation.  Not that I want to go anywhere when I have a car, but when I don’t… I suddenly get the urge to go to town for no apparent reason.  And while I sometimes get hives from the mere thought of going to town alone, when I don't have the option it ...

Playing in the Snow
Yesterday it snowed and about 6 inches stuck, then it snowed more over night and into the morning before turning into beautiful blue skies.  And for the first time all year the snow was sticky. Mountain living is so sweet in the spring.

Some Wicked Wind This Way Blows and A Very Silent Night
Sunday was windy, and while it would be easy to think that the mountains don't get strong winds... just take note of the fact that buildings in our area have to be rated for 120 mph gusts.  We get seasonal 80-100 mph winds a few times a year, but I think some of the current gusts have been running even above that.
Yesterday afternoon the wind knocked out power several times in the surrounding areas, and dropped power to our whole area around 5:30pm.  Thankfully the wind died down completely by 6pm so ...

A "New" Used Addition to Our Car Family
A smart girl thinks ahead... and an obsessively compulsive one thinks ahead, plans for the worst, and then worries about it until something can be done... then worries about it some more.  And this was the case with our recent car troubles.  Luckily though, I put some of that planning and worry to good use by having scoured Craigslist for the best deals on hopefully good running vehicles.
So when ...

Cars - Headache and Heartache
A few weeks ago, hubby was in an accident while driving my beloved little red Subaru Justy "Roobie".  The other driver did an illegal U-turn without looking on an icy road.  (Yea, that is the kind of dim-wits that are on the road every day.)  Hubby's neck is very sore and the doctors kept him home from work for several days and he is still taking the last week of muscle-relaxants to try to get back in good shape, but he will be fine.  Thank heavens that the little Justy was made back when they actually ...

Thanksgiving Weekend and Covering a Barn Shelter
I am thankful for many things.  My friends and family.  That my sister invites hubby and I to spend Holidays with her family.  And right now I am very thankful that I no longer need to worry about everything in the "barn" getting covered with a couple foot of snow this winter.
