Well... the pain isn't exactly wonderful. I am really sore, somewhat bruised, a little blistered, and have asphalt rash on my shins and knees, and a really funny tan at my sock-line.
However, dad and I got almost the entire roof done yesterday! And while the overall shed is still far from being complete, there is just something about having a roof on it that took it from being a collection of semi-random parts and turned it into a cohesive something. Instead of digging a hole, or putting together a floor, or framing a wall, or cutting a rafter... we are now building a shed.
At least that is how I felt as we hammered shingle after shingle on, making beyond-professional perfect rows aligned with the precision that only a slightly OCD nut-case would require. That would be me, not dad, though I have definitely noticed where I get talking to the tools and project materials from.
After the planking was on the roof, dad noticed that the loft window opens right onto the corner of the shed and we were able to use it several times coming and going. While dad still had to lift the heavy shingles onto the roof with the ladder, it did allow a lot easier movement than using the ladder every time.
So for the list of accomplishment since dad got here: we have added double top-plates, sheathed 2 1/2 walls, painted fascia (roof trim boards) and drip-edging, installed rafters and roof extensions, installed the roof planking, installed the fascia boards, roof underlayment, drip-edging, and shingles up to the second-to-top row.
Unfortunately I have a doctor appointment, so other than picking up some additional needed stuff for the shed while we are in town, nothing much will get done today. Friday will be right back at it again though, and I am excited to see what all we will get done.
