A2 Hosting still has not fixed the Database after their servers failed AGAIN. A2 Hosting is the WORST!
Because of this, new posts are currently missing and I can only HOPE they eventually recover the table they didn't restore after their latest failure.

A Long Shelf and a Hammer Storage box

DIY   ideas   tools   woodworking

Today I managed to get out of my crochet-on-the-couch-while-watching-tv mode and got a couple more boxes for the workshop built.

The first is a high up shelf that will help get semi-long term storage items up and out of the way.

The other box is a bit more interesting and not only holds hammers securely on the door, but also stores boxes of screws and nails inside.

To build this hammer rack, I used a 1-inch forstner bit (you could use a spade bit if you don't have a forstner) and drilled holes about 3/4 inch apart and about a half-inch from the top of the hardwood board.  Then I used my jig-saw to cut up from the holes to make slots.  With a little extra nibbling on the sides of the slots for my larger hammers, it was a pretty good fit.  The hammer faces are locked in place by their "necks"... that narrow area right past the hammer face.

I may need to re-do the slot board when I find all my hammers because I belatedly realized that some of my hammers probably have smaller heads and would slip free from the slot.  Also, I still need to buy or build some kind of long pegs to hold the mallet and dead-blow hammer on the left side, but I am sure I will figure something out for that soon.

A little time off for doing something different brings out great new shop boxes and shelves. Up high and out of the way is a good thing.

Thanks all!  It seems like very slow going, but I would rather go slow and be happy with the result than rush and have it a disaster area like most of the rest of the house.
