A2 Hosting still has not fixed the Database after their servers failed AGAIN. A2 Hosting is the WORST!
Because of this, new posts are currently missing and I can only HOPE they eventually recover the table they didn't restore after their latest failure.

Some Yard Improvement Plans

Greetings family and friends!

So what are we working on right now?

Turning this…..

Into this…..

(please ignore the poor picture cropping and bad photoshopping)

There was a sale on certain bushes at Lowes, so I had hubby stop by yesterday night and pick up a little herd of them.

Unfortunately we still won’t have the 8 that we really are in more immediate need of to go next to the door (right side of picture), but it definitely will give some to fill in the border areas I have been wanting to do since we moved in.

The picture shows them full size, so it won’t look like that any time real soon… but it helps give me an idea of how I should space them for future growth.

Of course it is a really rough sketch cropped from internet pictures and some photos I took from our loft window, but still you can get some ideas from it.

Additionally (and the original reason I sent hubby to the Lowes sale), we got quite a few medium-sized cold-hardy lilacs for $5 each.  They will be going along our property fence behind and to the sides of the covered picnic area you can see at the far left of the picture.  The on-sale lilacs were supposed to be a zone 3 “Old Fashioned”  (we are right on the line of zone 4 and 3, but our altitude makes 3 the better choice).  However, when hubby got them home, I was frightened to see that they were not the “Old Fashioned” but a “James Macfarlane” type.  However, on closer inspection of the tag, it says they are cold-hardy down to zone 2!  I didn’t even know there was a lilac that could handle zone 2, so I am quite excited to see how they do for us since our other lilacs have been having a very hard time each winter and not really growing.

Of course, we will have to wait for a few weeks before we can plant any of them up here, but it will give us time to dig nice extra big holes and get good soil to plant them in since we are mostly gravely-rock-crumble and not a lot of dirt up here.
